DESIGNING AT SERIES C, GROWTH STARTUP

Brand partnerships at Super

I was a Product design intern at Super in 2023. I lead the interface design of Super.com's first monetization initiatives. I closely collaborated with 1 Product manager, 2 Software developers, and 1 content marketer.

OUTCOME

Within a few weeks, 5+ users switched to Super's mobile phone plan.

Eager to monetize, Super.com launched a mobile phone plan in partnership with Gigslabel. The Super mobile plan was among the first set of monetization initiatives at Super.com & it performed modestly in its early stages, converting 5+ users.

DESIGN APPROACH

I approached the UI/UX of the Super’s mobile plan with a fresh set of eyes, challenging existing design patterns and components.

To minimize dev lift, the use of existing design patterns and components were encouraged. However, as I am often interested in tackling UI/UX problems from a more creative, open-minded headspace, I presented with alternatives.

FIRST ITERATION

I experimented with cards and tags to improve the presentation of different types of information.

To remove my bias of the existing design system, I refreshed the modal design with components that are akin of the typical visual design of phone and subscription plans.

FINAL DESIGN

Inspired by the industry standard, I highlighted the key information users immediately look for in a phone plan.

Content was rearranged to minimize filler information.

LEARNINGS

User-centric design enabled creativity.

While non-design stakeholders may already have a solution in mind, my advocacy for user-centric design enhanced conversations with my peers, fostering greater collaboration and a fresher perspective.
